Retreating with Writers

Last weekend I went on a writing retreat. I've been to several writing conferences and workshops, but this was the first time I'd ever been to a writing retreat. It was really fun. Eight of us rented a house together in the Columbia Gorge and spent the entire weekend writing, sharing stories, and talking about the craft. None of us had books in stores yet, but two of the writers have their debut's coming out this summer.

Sometimes hours would go by, each of us tucked away in different corners of the house laptop in hand writing away, without anyone saying a word. Other times we talked and laughed, sharing stories both fictional and conversational.

It was a great weekend. I didn't know most of these writer until the start of the retreat, but I hope we stay friends for years to come. Writing can be suck a solitary activity. Doing it near other people from time to time is a nice change, and definitely something I hope to do again.
