2013 Goals

For this week's Road Trip Wednesday, the good people over at YA Highway are asking the question

What are your goals for the new year---for reading, writing, or other?

My answer is kind of lame. I don't have any. There comes a time in peoples lives when things are supposed to get predictable. An adults life shouldn't drastically change from one year to the next and setting reasonable goals should therefore be a relatively easy thing to do.

Back in 2011, I had a number of goals about half of which came true. There where also a lot of great things that happened to me that year that I hadn't even thought to set as goals, because I never expected them to happen so quickly.

Then in 2012, I failed to achieve all of the goals I set for myself. And I honestly didn't think my goals had been unobtainable. Instead, I spent the second half of the year in and out of hospitals, and celebrated the New Year simply thankful to still be alive.

As a joke, I made my new years resolution to not reach the maximum out of pocket expenses for my medical insurance. My 2012 medical bills came out to about 3 times my annual salary (thank God I have insurance).

A part of the whole being glad to still be alive thing is a new appreciation for life itself. There are still things that I hope will happen in my future, many of which I am actively working towards achieving. But I've learned I can't take anything for granted.

So my goals for 2013 are pretty simple. I want to live to see 2014. And I want to enjoy whatever blessings and adventures come my way in 2013, be they large or small. I'm just not going to attempt to guess what those blessings will be.
