For this weeks Road Trip Wednesday, the good people over at YA Highway are asking the question
What's the best book you read in October?
It isn't a YA book, but it is fabulous. I absolutely loved The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton.
In 1913, a four year old girl was put on a ship in England and sent to Australia. When nobody came to claim the little girl, the Australian harbor master adopted her and raised her as his own. In 1975, after her parents die Nell finds clues to her previous life and travels back to England to try and solve the mystery of who she was before she boarded that ship. Before she can finish solving the mystery, her grandaughter Cassandra is sent to live with her. In 2005, after Nell dies, Cassandra finds her grandmother's thirty year old notes and travels to England herself to finish solving this 90 year-old mystery.
The story weaves between timelines beautifully in a gripping and compelling family mystery. I loved every page of this story and was truly shocked by it's ending. I highly recommend it.
