Split Personalities

I’m not claiming to be schizo or anything, but there are voices in my head. I’m of course talking about the voices of my characters. There may be some rule that all writers need to be at least a little bit nuts.

My problem isn’t that my characters are talking to me. The problem is that there are too many different characters talking to me. Right now, I basically have four works in progress. Writers area always talking about their WIP. I can’t really use that term because I have too many.

Now that I’m not working, I’m trying to write more. So yesterday I worked on two different stories. One is a YA contemporary piece and the other is a MG historical fiction piece. I like both stories a lot, and I fully intend to finish them both at some point in time. I just can’t seem to pick which one to write first. So I’m writing them both, at the same time. Hence, the competing voices in my head. I swear, if I wasn’t crazy before I’m going to be soon.

Joke of the Day
There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to become a great writer. When asked to define great, he said, "I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, howl in pain and anger!" He now works for Microsoft writing error messages.
